About MCC

MCC is Micro Compact Car AG. Nicolas Hayek founded it in 1994 in Biel as a joint subsidiary of Daimler-Benz and SMH SA. The company built the Smart Fortwo. The Smart name comes from Swatch, Mercedes and ART.1

The Fortwo has a length of about 2.5 to 2.69 meters and a rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. A steel safety cell called the Tridion cell is a prominent feature.1

The first generation ran from 1998 to 2006, the second from 2006 to 2014 and the third from 2014 to 2024. About 1.6 million Fortwo cars had left the plant by October 2014.12

All models were assembled at Smartville in Hambach, France, a Daimler plant.12
